Military Mopp Suit - In spring 2020, the 35th Contracting Squadron asked 35th Fighter Wing units to present at a pitch day for innovative ideas to improve Airmen's workplace.
Pitch Day involves the acquisition of innovative technologies from non-traditional defense contractors to balance the ever-evolving business environment.

From the responses received and input from all squadron commanders, the 35th CONS staff narrowed the response down to 11 areas of improvement (AOI).

"In response to posting our solicitation for AOIs, we received proposals from the US and Japanese companies," said Lt. 1. Justin Zinkle, 35th CONS plans and programs officer.
Now, just a few months later, an idea is being implemented at Misawa Air Base by maintenance, security forces, the fire department and an explosive ordnance disposal flight.
An operational AOI was submitted by the 35th Civil Engineer Squadron for improvements to mission-based defense posture gear to improve operational conditions in MOPP Phase 4.
RINI Technologies, a company that provides innovative solutions to Florida's thermal management challenges, submitted a proposal for a MOPP cooling system that cools the suit while wearing MOPP gear in response to AOI.

Airmen are exposed to a high heat-stress environment while in MOPP gear, and this vest allows the Airmen's core air to keep cool.
"I feel more comfortable with the vest, especially when using the MOPP device," said Airman 1st Class Tiffany Eustis, 35th CES emergency manager. "This vest allows me to perform and complete operations more efficiently."
Twenty four cooling vests were purchased as a result of the pitch day. Maintenance, security forces, fire departments and EOD aircraft received four vests to test during training and exercise programs.
The 35th CES emergency maintenance aircraft has eight cooling vests remaining for distribution to units that will be testing the product during exercises and training events. JSLIST (Joint Service Lightweight Integrated Suit Technology) is the product of a four-service effort to provide a range of general chemical protective clothing, including lightweight CB protective clothing, versatile boots, and gloves. Each unit is based on advanced material technology that has undergone extensive user evaluation and field and laboratory testing. The goal of the JSLIST program includes low heat stress, compatibility with all interface devices, long wear and washability. JSLIST Battle Dress Replaces Overgarment.
The JSLIST Overgarment is a universal, lightweight, two-piece, front-opening coat that can be worn as an overgarment or as a primary uniform over underwear. It features an integral hood, bellows-type sockets, high-waisted pants, adjustable suspenders, adjustable waistband, and waist-long jacket that improves system comfort, improves system acceptance, and improves compatibility with personal user equipment.
The JSLIST liner consists of a non-woven front, laminated to activated carbon spheres, and bonded to a knitted backing that absorbs chemical agents. Previously, the BDO liner consisted of charcoal-infused polyurethane foam and nylon tricot laminate. BDO foam degrades when soldiers rub against it and can become messy.
The bulky charcoal layer found in the old BDO was replaced by a lightweight, permeable selective membrane that blocks harmful substances instead of absorbing them. A lot of sweat can also escape. Weighing in at just under six pounds, the new coat is half the weight of BDO. It is available in 4-color Woodland or 3-color Desert Camouflage. It can be used in an uncontaminated environment for up to 45 days with six washes or up to 120 days without a wash. JSLIST can be used for 24 hours in a contaminated environment. The Multipurpose Rain / Snow / CB Overboot replaces the old Overboot. MULO is manufactured by injection molding from a blend of elastomers, combined to provide unique chemical and environmental protection. It incorporates two quick-release side buckles and is designed to be used on standard combat boot issues, jungle boot and intermediate cold/wet boot.
MULO provides 60 days of durability and 24 hours of protection against liquid chemical agents. MULOs are capable of being decontaminated to operationally safe levels using standard field decontamination. Environmental protection against water, snow and mud is provided with petroleum, oil and grease and fire resistance.
